Hey Y'all,
This week was the best week of my mission. We had a Baptism on Saturday and it went very well. The Spirit was felt the whole time. Me and Elder Braithwaite were asked to be witnesses for the baptism and I was asked to give a talk on the Holy Ghost. So I'll tell y'all more about that in the week. So here's the week for y'all!
TUESDAY- Today was a more tired day. Me and Elder Braithwaite got mainly no sleep and so we took naps during the day to get some energy. We went to an Aldies so Elder Braithwaite could get some groceries. I'm tellin y'all when I go in stores, I get all kinds of looks! The good, the bad, the ugly. Lol. So then we went and got a car wash and then we went and tried to see some less actives/investigators but they weren't home. So we got dinner and went to the church and did family history then we came home for the night.
WEDNESDAY- Today was the same thing we didn't sleep well. We tried going to bed earlier, but that seemed to make us toss and turn that night. I slept better but my comp didn't. So then when we both felt better we went and tried to see this person Lea but she wasn't home. Ugh. So then we went to our Book of Mormon class and we read out of Alma and then we gave a blessing to this girl who had 4 wisdom teeth taken out. I could relate to her cause I had 4 taken out as well. So then we played Human Foosball. That was fun, except when you’re the big guy you get hit a lot with the ball. Lol. Then we went home.
THURSDAY- Today we tried to go see that person Lea again but she wasn't home ugh. Then we went back home and Elder Braithwaite took a nap again. This week has sucked sleeping wise. We just seem to always fall asleep at the 2am or 3am spot. Ugh. So then we went to the church for basketball with Gavin. And so we played and I mainly scored. Lol. Then we taught Gavin and then he left and we did some family history and I found my first lds ancestor. He was back in the 1850s he lived in England. He was an outdoors man. (I love the outdoors) so I guess that where I get loving the outdoors from. Lol.
FRIDAY- Today was a drag. We tried going to bed earlier yesterday but the same thing. We both have no idea what's goin on. But were still trying our best at getting up on time. So today we went to the church and got ready for Gavins Baptism and we got the program ready and set the church up and then we did some family history and then we tried seeing Lea but she was leaving her home and so she said she'd call us. So then we went home and Elder Braithwaite and I tried to get some extra sleep that night.
SATURDAY- Today was the BEST day of my mission! I finally got to witness one of the investigators we taught get baptized. We went and saw this guy Tommy and so we read the scriptures with him and then we went to the church and we got ready for it we studied for our talks. Elder Braithwaite gave the one on Baptism and I gave it on the Holy Ghost. So then Gavin came and before he got dressed he played some basketball to prepare. Lol. Then we started the Baptism and when Gavin came up out of the water he was so emotional and he hugged his Grandpa (who baptized him) and they spent about 30 seconds in the water. I even got teary eyed. It was somthin to see. So then I gave my talk and I read a passage from a talk by David Bednar (I'll put it at the end of the email) and then after our mission President came up to us and said y'all should be professional spokesmen. Lol. We laughed and we hugged Gavin and he said he felt the Spirit a lot. Truly a great day for all of us. Then we went home and got dinner and went back to the church and talked with some members and did family history then we came home. A member made me an Aggravation Board as well! (If y'all don't know what that is, it's a Chinese game and it's kinda like Sorry. But that's why it's called Aggravation cause it gets you aggravated lol.) I will remember this day for the rest of my life.
SUNDAY- Today was a better day we woke up better but still tired and so we went to church and it was raining a lot then a member who was supposed to speak didn't show up so I bore my testimony and we had Gavin confirmed a member as well. It was awesome. So then at the end of priesthood this guy who was teaching always jokes with me saying" look at this guy brethren, he played Lacrosse which is a waste of talent. He should've played football". Lol. So the topic of what he was teaching was revelation to choose what to do. So after he made that comment, I told him this " Well see I had to choose between football and Lacrosse so I prayed and God told me to play Lacrosse" there were ooooooooos in that class. He was like good one lol. So after I had people coming up to me saying that was pretty funny. Then we went home and took a power nap then we went to a members for dinner and then we tried to see some less actives but nothing. So then we went home.
MONDAY- So we slept terrible again and so we mainly stayed in till about 3 and we tried to go see that person Lea but nothing so we went to Wal-Mart and we got some things and then we went and saw less actives and we shared some scriptures and then we went and did family history and then we had dinner and then we went to the church so I could look up some referrals then we went home.
TUESDAY- Today we went to a doctor's appointment up in Birmingham then we went to the Temple. This was the last one that I'll be able to go to on my mission. I LOVE the temple. Then we went home and emailed and then we tried to see some people but nothing so then we went home.
So that was the week. Here's the talk I used in my talk on Saturday I really liked it.
The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead; He is a personage of spirit and bears witness of all truth. In the scriptures the Holy Ghost is referred to as the Comforter (see John 14:16–27; Moroni 8:26), a teacher (see John 14:26; D&C 50:14), and a revelator (see 2 Nephi 32:5). Revelations from the Father and the Son are conveyed through the Holy Ghost. He is the messenger for and the witness of the Father and the Son.
The Holy Ghost is manifested to men and women on the earth both as the power and as the gift of the Holy Ghost. The power can come upon a person before baptism; it is the convincing witness that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, sincere investigators can acquire a conviction of the truthfulness of the Savior’s gospel, of the Book of Mormon, of the reality of the Restoration, and of the prophetic calling of Joseph Smith.
The gift of the Holy Ghost is bestowed only after proper and authorized baptism and by the laying on of hands by those holding the Melchizedek Priesthood. The Lord declared:
“Yea, repent and be baptized, every one of you, for a remission of your sins; yea, be baptized even by water, and then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost. …
“And whoso having faith you shall confirm in my church, by the laying on of the hands, and I will bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost upon them” (D&C 33:11, 15).
The Apostle Paul made this practice clear to the Ephesians when he asked:
“Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
“And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.
“Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
“When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
“And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them” (Acts 19:2–6).
We have district meeting tomorrow, meeting with Gavin for his New Member lessons and setting up for new beginnings. Also seeing a lot of referrals on Thursday. That’s about it.
Yeah it’s getting hot. It’s rained the last couple of days. We haven’t seen Alice that much, it’s weird. We text her when we go over but the last couple of times we didn’t have the chance too.
I’m keeping up with the jazz as well. They’re doing good, just less fights. Lol. They need to be cool. It’s hard but they don’t need to be jerks like OKC. My comp likes Russel Westbrook. Lol.
I’m feeling mixed about getting to the end. Scared but excited to come home. But that’s got nothing to do with me sleeping. Something is just wacky. We both aren’t getting that much sleep for some reason.
Some groups get to go to the temple on their last night in the mission but my group is too big. At least that’s what I’ve been told. There is going to be 29-32, lol. A lot.
Well mom I gotta go but I love yall, stay safe and always remember I’m praying for you!
Elder Webb
