July 3, 2017 Selma AL with Elder Morley

Hey mom!!!

This week has been really busy for sure. I’m doing great right now.  I have no worries!  I knew you would be a little worried but I’m smart.  I know where to go and what to look out for. I’ll be ok, Gods on my side.  I don’t feel that I’m ever in danger. Selma is very poor.  There’s a lot of black people here and a lot of people that just don’t want to change. You here gun shots here and there but don’t worry about that. It reminds me a lot of Wetumpka but much more poor. The apartment is smaller than the other one, one shower and 2 bathrooms.   We have a washer and dryer in our apartment for now but not for long.  We are going to be using the apartment ones here soon. I’m in the Montgomery south zone.  We are the only missionaries in Selma. There’s alot of history down here and there’s a lot of crazy drivers as well.  There’s a Walmart here, we just have to get there by car.

OH MY GOSH!! Elder Morley is the man! He’s been the best one yet!!  He’s from Payson and he basically likes a lot of the same things I like, country music and riding atvs and dirt bikes. We came out together but didn’t know each other because we were in different districts. He’s been in Selma for about 3 transfers.  He likes the area.

Holy cow THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!! YEAR MARK!!!!!! IM HALFWAY THERE!!!!!!!
Yeah Sister Sainsbury read that same story to us on transfers; I thought it was so cool.  Here’s the week.

MONDAY- After we emailed we went over to El casador with the Driggers and they said their final goodbyes and then we went and saw Reaph and taught him the Plan of Salvation.  When we told him I was leaving he said to make sure you come by one last time. So then we went home.

TUESDAY- Today was a sad day we basically went and said goodbye to people.  We first went and I got a haircut from Elder Lewis and then we went to see Eric Gender and then he took us to see the Foils.  We went and saw sister Shellman and she prayed for my safety and then we went and saw Eric and he was sad to see me leave and then we went home so I could pack some more.  We went to see Reaph again and he told me, “I will never forget you, you changed my life for the better.”  Then he told me about some good restaurants in Selma and then we went home for the night.

WEDNESDAY- Transfer day! So we got up and I finished getting my stuff together and then the Scottsboro Elders came and me and Elder Hastings went up to transfers and I saw Elder Butterfield and Ratigan and of course Matthews. Elder Mathew said hi and asked how the area was going.  After transfers me and Elder Morley went to Moe’s BBQ and then we started the 2 hour drive home.  While going there my bike almost fell off the car but we got it. We got to Selma and I started unpacking and we started talking.  He’s into rodeo a lot and sometimes was in the Ute Stampede.  He loves the wild child. Lol. Then we went and he introduced me to some people here.  The people here just don’t want to change so we usually do the same thing over a lot. We then had to rush over to the hospital and give a blessing to a guy from the ward who was having a stroke.  Afterwards we came home.

THURSDAY- Today was a great day.  We went and volunteered over at a food pantry and we got to take some food home with us as well.  Then we went home and had lunch and then we went and saw this guy Marcus, he’s been a convert for a year now.  Then we went and did weekly planning and then we went to see this guy Scott and read with him and then we went to see this family and the mom has two younger daughters who remind me of Ash because of how sassy they are. Lol. Then we went to see Doc for the rest of the night. She was a doctor so we just call her that and that’s what she is known for I guess.  I like that we have a car. Lol. It’s a Toyota Corolla. Elder Morley drives most of the time. We don’t use the bikes at all because they may get stolen.

FRIDAY- Today was a rainy day and it rained the whole day.  We went to Mongolia for our district meeting and there are some cool people in our district.  We made a year mark video after the district meeting. Then we went to eat at the Martins, they feed the missionaries when they have district meeting and then we went back to Selma.  Elder Morley is the district leader.  We went and saw this person Beth and she is so cool!! She works at an old train depo and she gave me a tour of the history of it. Then we went over to see Doc and she has 3 dogs named Bo, Myles, and Ton.  They are so funny.  Then we went home for dinner.  We went to see these people over in town that call themselves the Harmony club.  They were drunk but so funny, then we went home.

SATURDAY- Today was a great day.  We did service the whole day.  We went over to the harmony club and helped them put a new sign up which involved mixing cement and stuff like that.  I got sunburned, lol.   Then we went over to Docs and helped her remodel her home.  Past missionaries started it but we kept going and then we ate dinner with her and then we talked the rest of the night. When we were driving home we noticed that some roads were flooded from the rain and it was all the way up to the door.

SUNDAY- Today was a good day.  We went to church and there are only 20 people that go to church. I think I will have to talk more in church because of how small it is.  It’s called a Branch.  It’s from 9 to 1130.  I said the opening prayer in sacrament meeting and then we went and taught Primary.  There was only one boy in there named Jacob.  We taught him about fasting and prayer and then church ended.  We went home and changed into service clothes and helped someone with a leak in their roof and then some members fed us lunch, chicken and mashed potatoes.  We went home and changed again and then we went and saw some less actives.  We saw this less active family the Busters.  She’s an RN so I had stuff to tell her about you. She thought that was cool and then ordered pizza and then we went home for the night.

MONDAY- We got up this morning and came here and emailed.  Later we are having lunch with a guy named David and then idk what after that. There’s a lot of cool history here.  We even went over the Pettis bridge.

For the holiday we are having food at 12 at a members but nothing besides that.  We are having a bon fire over at a less actives home on the 5th to celebrate the year mark.

THATS CRAZY about Sister Peirce knowing Sister Haymond in Huntsville!!!!!!!!!! SO COOL!!
This next week we have zone conference on the 6th and an exchange right after that.  That’s where we go to another area and switch comps for the day and sleep over there.

We don’t get fed that much here, Doc feeds us a little.

Well mom we’ve got to go, love you forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elder Webb
