Hi yall!
How are yall doing? I’m doing great out here. Two weeks ago me and elder B gave a blessing to an elderly man who had stage 4 cancer. We were home on a Sunday night and we got a call from the sisters. They said “we’ve got a blessing request for yall. Can you do it?” We said yes. So they came and gave us the car and we went to his house. His daughter in law came out and told us he can’t have hands on his head because he’s too claustrophobic. So I asked Elder B can we do it like a prayer? He said yes so I gave him a blessing and then we went outside with the mom and daughter in law. We talked to them and then this older guy came out and talked to me for a bit. He wanted to know who we were and what we did or do. I told him about the restoration and gave him some pamphlets and a Book of Mormon. He then showed me his dog and motorcycle. The motorcycle was a Harley and the dog was a Pitbull. I wasn’t scared of the Pitbull, she was nice, and then we had to go. That was on a Sunday night. Even if it’s a Sunday the Lord’s work never stops. Every Sunday we either have ward correlation where we meet with our mission leader to discuss the people we find or we have ward council where the presidents of the quorums and classes meet to discuss things going on in the ward. On Sundays we have sacrament meeting and then class then priesthood and relief society. Then after church we go to a sacrament meeting with the YSA’s. We go back to our apartment and then head out for the day. President Sainsbury told Elder B to go in at 8pm now. He says that from 5-6 is the best time to be teaching. I will now share some things out of my journal.
October 26. Today was a great day. I started keeping a dream journal today because Elder B told me if I wrote them down they would become more clear. So I started one today. We went out and started today with Steven. Steven was baptized last March. He’s 32 years old and not married. He loves me and the other missionaries. Afterwards we went to Frios and got free popsicles from Emily (she works there). We went to the ward trunk or treat. Me and Elder B were the judges of the cars. We had a fun time then we went and saw James and Annette and that was the day.
October 25. Today was a good day. We went to the church for district meeting then went to Wendy’s for lunch. We came home so that this missionary, Elder Honn could give me a new haircut called the fade. Everyone was telling me how great it looked. I sort of didn’t like it but I got over it. I love it now. That night we went over to the bishop’s house to have dinner and then went home. Our bishop is a retired BYU kicker names Jared McLaughlin. He’s so cool.
November 12. Today we went over to the food pantry to help them since this guy Kenny wasn’t there. We went over to James and Annette’s to try the chili that she made for the chili cook-off tonight. Then us and the sisters were in a competition to see who could make the best cupcakes. They won. Then we went over to the chili cook off. Annette didn’t win but everyone was telling us how great her chili was. We came home and that was our day.
Everywhere we go there are churches. Geez like most of the population of Bama is Baptist. Elder B showed me a Baptist hymn that he heard when he attended one of them. It’s called “sweet victory” by Trip Lee. It’s so funny he told me they would go hard and would dance to the song. Lol. I want to attend a Baptist church just to see what it’s like. I have had people yell at us that we are wasting our time or we don’t have time for you or we just get the door slammed in our face. Usually I would feel bad but now I just laugh at them and say to myself “Geez what fools they are.“ The mission is flying by. I can’t believe that November is almost over. Holy cow. I can remember in one of the exchanges we had I was in Prattville and we were at a fair with the Prattville sisters Beck and Abhey. While we were there, Sister Beck came over to me and said there are like no attractive people in Alabama. I said because they have no teeth. She was like that’s so true and high fived me. Lol.
The one thing I miss is the Sunday dinners. I loved the picture of Sunday dinner at Kirk and Shirley’s. I convinced this guy James to stop drinking. He says he feels more energetic and can do a lot more. Have Ash and Ty been complaining about going to church still? If so, DON’T. God loves you and he wants you to be clean every week. Every time we do something wrong Heavenly Father weeps. Pray often. Heavenly Father wants to hear from his children. He gets sad every day we don’t. It’s just like if mom and dad went away for a while and you didn’t get any text or call from them. How would you feel? I would be worried and sad if I didn’t hear from them. Keep going, you’re doing good. There are days where I think of you guys like going to Holiday or Iceberg. By the way there isn’t any down here. No Holiday and no Iceberg or Arctic Circle for shakes.
Well I’m gonna conclude with my testimony. I know that God lives. He loves us and wants what’s best for me and you. I know that the church is true. I cannot deny it. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I’ve prayed about it. If it’s not true, I don’t’ what is. I know that I’m never alone. My brother and Savior Jesus Christ is here with me always. He is my light and my redeemer. I testify to you in the sacred name of our Lord and Savior, even Jesus Christ, Amen.
I love the song by Owl City, “You’re not alone.”
Love yall forever!
