January 29, 2018: Jasper AL with Elder Cluff

Hey mom!!!!!

This week has been a good week.  So I’m in Jasper AL and my new comp is Elder Cluff.  I’m in the Bessemer Zone.  Jasper is nicer than Selma. Elder Cluff’s been out for 22 months and he’s a Spanish speaking elder. He’s from Yakima Washington. I didn’t know him before. But he’s really cool. He has diabetes which is a little hard cause he’s gotta keep his blood sugar level even so he won’t act weird. His mom is paranoid with him having diabetes out here.  His mom and you are like the same person, you worry alot. Lol.

Thanks for telling me about the week.  I don’t really have any spiritual experiences this week, except the blessing that we gave.

I hope Ashlyn liked my card. I got my whole district to sign it for her. Lol. But yeah I put thought into it.  We have a senior couple in our area and they are the ones who sent the pics to you. They’re pretty cool.

Here’s the week.

TUESDAY- Today we had our final district meeting and we signed books and I had them sign Ash’s card then we left and we went to have lunch at a place called full moon bbq.  It was really good then we went to this guys house named Aubrey who is getting baptized on Saturday so the other Elders introduced him to Elder Lewis and then we left and we went to the Alders and said goodbye to the dad.  Then went to the moms dance studio and I said goodbye to them then we went home and I packed the rest of the night.

WEDNESDAY- Today was transfers so I got my stuff packed up then we went to transfers where I got Elder Cluff and it’s a car area. We got a Malibu and then we went back and had lunch with David then we went to see this person named Alice who’s a member then we stayed there and did some stuff for her then we went to a book of mormon class and then we went home so I could unpack.

THURSDAY- Today we talked this morning and got to know each other then we went with the Christianson’s to give a blessing to this lady and then we talked with her then we went home and did weekly planning.  Then we went to try and find me a white shirt but there is nothing here. I think we will have to get them online or I’ll just deal with them till I come home since its 5 months.  I’ve asked around about where to get one and I get the same stores so idk.  So then we went and tried to contact some people but we only saw one referral then we went and had dinner then we went and taught a lesson to this couple who are gonna be baptized in March then we went to the church for a class where we teach people how to speak English but nobody was there so we went home.

FRIDAY- We tried another store for a shirt but nothing so we went to tract and we didn’t find anyone so we tried to see some other people but they weren’t home so we went to our dinner appointment and I talked with the dad about swamp people and atvs and then we read scriptures with them then we gave a blessing to this member then we left and we went to the Christianson’s and then we went home.

SATURDAY- Today we had a meeting in Bessemer with a stake president then we went and had pizza and Elder Cluffs blood sugar got low so we went to the car and he ate something then we left and we went home and then we went to our blitz and we tried to see some members that Elder Christianson gave us and we saw some people but they didn’t want to talk to us so we did that till 5 then we went and had some great enchiladas at the Christianson’s then we went to a members home then we went home for the night.

SUNDAY- Today we went to church and they had me bear my testimony and I told people I played Lacrosse and they came and talked about that to me a lot. Then we went in with the youth then we went to priesthood then we went home and stayed there for a while cause Elder Cluff wasn’t feeling too well then we went to see some members but they weren’t home so we tried so many people and nothing worked.  We saw people but they didn’t let us in so that night we went to the Christianson’s and we had some cookies and talked with them and then we went home.

MONDAY- Today we got up and did laundry and now we are at a library emailing. We are going to a member’s house later to play some games. We also have a dinner appointment tonight at these members the Archibald’s.

That was the week, also did you get an email from president Sainsbury about getting the missionaries a smartphone?

Hey mom!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to send Ashlyn a birthday card this week.  That’s cool about dad going back to work fulltime.

So here’s the news I’m leaving and Elder Lewis will be here in a trio. So I have no idea where I’m going so we shall see what happens.  I hate moving so much! But oh well.

The mission got to see Elder Neil Anderson of the 12 apostles last week on Saturday and guess who got to shake his hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy!!!! He came and talked to the whole mission in private. It was so cool, you could feel the power of his words so much!

We went fishing this morning but we caught nothing. It was us, the other Inverness elders and the Hoover sisters. There’s a private pond we went to.  But I left my camera home so when we go get our laundry I’ll get my camera. But that’s what went on this week. It’s a short email but I’ve got to pack some stuff.

We’ve been doing a lot of tracting and not much success is coming of it.
We are at the complex apartments now. Just emailing and I’m working on family history too.  I found out Ron hasn’t had the initiatory or endowment done and so I wanted to do the endowment one for him but I need permission from his closest living relative. I’ve been getting into that a lot lately. 

We are going to a dinner appointment and then we will figure out what we will do for the rest of the night.

We had exchanges this week. It was fun. I went with this guy Elder Downs, he’s only been out for 3 months.

I have my camera now, I’ll get you some pictures of the week. It was 12 degrees on Friday. Ugh cold!!!!!!!!

Hey mom!!

I can’t email that much but I did email you. Lol!

We’ve had a busy day.  We had a zone activity in Tuscaloosa today. And that lasted till about 3 and we had to take people back to their area. We played Family Feud and Gatorball.  The libraries are closed and we are at Ensley emailing. 

That’s funny about your week. Elder Lewis is still waiting. We will be here for part of next transfer. He will be here till at least February, probably the first part of it. President just said I’ll be back in a trio. So I don’t know if it means just in Inverness or back in Ensley so we shall see but I’m ok.

It’s snowing here. We’ve been getting fed a lot. 

In the picture we decided to sit by the road and wave a sign that said free Book of Mormons. Nothing came out of it but I danced funny. 

Wow Ty got braces!!

I’m getting kicked off so I’ve gotta go. LOVE YOU FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ill email you a lot more next week.

Hey mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My week was awesome!!!!! We had a lot of cool experiences and we met some really cool people.  So far with Elder Lewis passport, it will be sent to Jamaica either this week or next week and it will take about 2 weeks for it to be sent back to us so it could be Feb before he goes home. Or sooner whatever happens. He’s gonna call them today and find out. I don’t think I’ll go back to Ensley even if I wanted to. 

We’ve done all proselyting and only did service 2 times. 18 months!!!!! haha if I was a sister missionary I would be home. We tract most of the time, see members.  We haven’t gotten any referrals. We are in the apt complex right now, we found some computers.

I’m so glad dad is back to work part time.  I know he hates staying inside. I’ve been doing some family history stuff.  I updated Grandma Lola’s status and put ash and ty in.  I don’t have that much time but ill share some experiences that happened.

1st one so we started teaching this guy named Parris Love and he was someone we tracted into.  He seemed to be really cool and so we tried going back and he looked like he wasn’t home so we were debating to go or not.  So we just went anyways and he was there and he had prayed about the things we taught him and we read the Book of Mormon with him and he was like awesome!!!!!!

2nd when we got the text about President Monson I instantly was really sad but an overwhelming feeling came over me and I envisioned him with his wife and how much they are loving each other and that he’s in no more pain. Plus Grandma Lola can meet him now. Lol.

3rd Sunday they made the YSA branch and Elder Lewis and a member and the other Elder Lewis sang during it. I also met Elder Alba of the seventy and shook his hand.  I bore my testimony in church that day as well, then after church (1 to 4) I was walking out and this lady came up to me and said I was in your ward back in Utah and I was a little confused but I was like ok. So we got talking and they lived right next to the Pascals and they moved here about 3 months ago. She also told me about my mom talking about me on the stand on mother’s day and said he was in Alabama on a mission and she saw my plaque as well and they wondered if they would meet me. They said when I got up to bear my testimony they were both like THATS HIM!!!!!! SMALL WORLD!!!!! The last name is Cando. But the cool thing about it is I was never gonna bear my testimony that day anyways but something told me I need to get up there and share. So I did and now I met her.  She’s gonna have us over for dinner sometime!

That’s about it.  I don’t have any more but Sunday was really cool. I don’t have any pics cause I’m trying to find my camera. The rest of the week we have dinner appointments every night. 

We just got done playing pool. There are sisters in this apartment complex and one of them wanted to play pool. She played me and I lost. Lol. I can say I lost to a girl at pool. Lol
We don’t share a car.  Ours is in the shop and so we have a cruise.  We just got a text the other Elders want us to come play gatorball so we will see you next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey mom!!!!!!! 

My week was great.  We did a lot of finding, which I’ve come to hate. Lol. But we’ve had some really cool experiences. Elder Lewis has to wait for his passport. He wasn’t able to go home again today like we kinda thought.  So I will be here for most likely the whole transfer. Elder Lewis is just going with it. There’s a reason he’s still here and why I’m with him so we are going with that for now. He’s doing awesome though. His moms pissed because she isn’t a member and doesn’t understand what happened and his dads just sad. I told Elder Lewis you’d probably come out here and drive me home yourself. Lol. But we are both getting along very well. HERES THE WEEK. WAIT IS TY HOLDING A SKUNK???? I guess it’s no weirder than me holding a raccoon, lol! I also sent him a letter for his bday.  

TUESDAY- Today we had our district meeting and it was very cool.  It’s us, the other inverness elders and the hoover sisters and elders. One of the sisters played Lacrosse at alpine. So she thought that was really cool that I played it as well. So then after d meeting we went to chick fil a and had lunch there and then we went to the mission home to get our car back.  The sisters drove it to chick fil a because they’re on bikes. So then after that we went and I did my laundry in at the other elders apt because ours doesn’t work. So after that we went to a members called the Alders and had dinner there and then we went to find but we had no luck so we just went home after that.  We live 20 min from our area. 

WEDNESDAY- Happy birthday Ty!!!!! So today we went to the mission office and got some stuff and I talked with the coordinator for the cars and he asked about lacrosse and stuff then elder Lewis got the call that he can’t go home yet so we are waiting for his passport to see what will happen.  So then we went home and had lunch then we went and had comp study and then we went and tried to see some members but they weren’t home so we went tracting and then we went to these members the Jorgensen’s and had dinner there with the other elders and then we went and saw this family the nelsons and just tried to get to know them and shared a thought with them then we came home. 

THURSDAY- So today we went to a pawn shop for elder Lewis to look at some stuff then we went to a library so elder Lewis could tell his dad about what’s going on so then we went to this place called Hattie Bs and had some really good food there.  We went back home and did comp study as well as weekly planning and then we went to tract and found some potentials.  We found this guy Larry who seemed really interested and then we went and had another dinner appointment and then we went and had coordination with our ward mission leader.  We went and played bball at the church and after everyone was asking me if I played bball in high school and I told them no I played lacrosse. They were like well you should’ve played basketball cause you’re really good. Lol. Then we went home. 

FRIDAY- Today we got up and we went to drop off some little white shirts to members and then we went to an apt complex and tracted and found 1 family that let us in and we taught them the restoration and then we left and went to chick fil a with this guy named David.  He knows the missionaries a lot so then we went home and did comp study then we went to do some more tracting and then we went and had dinner.  We went tracting some more then we went and saw this guy Omar that elder Lewis knew and then we went home. I had a great personal study I learned that God knows my Needs better than I do. It made me think a bit. And that means he knows your needs better that you do.(Ash) 

SATURDAY- So today we went to the library in the morning to find a map of the area so we know where we are going but we couldn’t get it so we went to the inverness Elders apt and tried to see this guy Nelson that they wanted us to meet.  So we tried to see him but no go so we went and tried to do some tracting there but nothin so we went to a gas station and while we were in there this guy came in and saw elder Lewis and talked with him and then I heard him say who’s from UTAH? Then I looked up and he came and talked with me.  His name is Stan Rose and he played basketball at UVU and broke records there and he also played on the New York Knicks and so we got pics with him.  He refused to be taught but he knows who we are cause some of his family is Mormon and in Utah. That was way cool. Then we went to a referral and had an AWSOME lesson with them then we went to the Vazeris and had dinner and then we went to see this guy named Guy but he wasn’t home so we went home after that.

SUNDAY- Today we went to church and met a lot of members and we learned a lot.  Then we went to Sunday school and then we combined and had a family history lesson and then we went to the elders apt and had lunch and then we went home changed and then we went out for the rest of the night and we went tracting that didn’t work.  We tried to see some members none of them were home so we went to a ysa get together and played some board games and then we went home at 8 cause we had to be in by then. Then elder Lewis gave me a haircut. 

MONDAY- HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TALON AND TIERRA! So today we went to Walmart and got some things then we went to inverness and dropped off some letters for members.  It was freezing today, 20 degrees for the high and so we were bundled up.  This weather feels like Utah. Elder Lewis hates it lol. 

We went to an apt complx and tried to talk to people and we got inside and taught this guy Pariss his pipes were frozen and he just wanted to talk.  Then we left and we went to a gas station and then we went to a dinner appointment at Chick fil a and then we went and tried to tract but it was too cold, 15 degrees and then I chose a family to see and we went over there and gave the dad a blessing because he was sick then we came home. 

TUESDAY- Today we got up and we went to find a laundry mat but couldn’t find one so we are here at the college emailing and were gonna go play gatorball at the church later and we have some set appointments tonight. So yeah that’s the week. 

One cool experience this week was when it was really cold outside and nobody was answering their door because it was cold and the auburn game was on so we were about to give up when we knocked on one last door and he let us in and we taught him and he gave us hot coco. 

The mission home is like 10 min away. The apartment is big, but if I grow a foot I’ll have to bend over lol
